How can we create positive and safe organizational workspaces that celebrate employees’ work and nonwork identities and experiences?

Nitya Chawla, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Work and Organizations Department at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota.

As organizations and business leaders grapple with the ‘future of work’ and attempt to return to ‘normal’ in the post-pandemic world, we have been presented with the unique opportunity to create organizational workspaces that work for everyone, and not just a select group(s) of individuals. In service of this goal, Nitya’s research is broadly aimed toward understanding how organizations and leaders can build inclusive environments and prioritize employee well-being and their nonwork experiences. Her research also considers the experiences of job seekers, focusing on the factors that both facilitate and inhibit their well-being.

Nitya’s research has been published in Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Organization Science, Research in Personnel and Human Resource Management, and Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Perspectives in Science and Practice. She is an editorial review board member of the Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology, and Human Resource Management. In addition, Nitya was recognized as Poets & Quants Top 50 Undergraduate Business School Professors in 2022.

Within the Academy of Management, Nitya has previously served as the Social Media Director of the Research Methods Division and the Human Resource Division of the Academy of Management. Currently, she serves within the Organizational Behavior Division’s Making Connections Committee.
