As an organizational researcher, Nitya explores how we can create humanized workspaces that allow employees to thrive, both at work and at home.

Nitya’s work often explores issues tied to diversity and inclusion within organizations as well as the importance of employee well-being. Recognizing that employees’ abilities to thrive in their careers long-term is intricately tied to their early work experiences, Nitya's research also examines the factors that prompt successful job searches.

Nitya’s dissertation work—which focused on women’s experiences of sexism while searching for a job—was awarded the 2019 Society for Human Resource Management Foundation’s Dissertation Grant, the 2020 Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) Hebl Grant for Reducing Gender Inequities in the Workplace Award, and the 2021 SIOP S. Rains Wallace Dissertation Award. And, more recently, her research on understanding the experiences of Black police officers was awarded the 2023 Responsible Research in Management Award.

Outside of her empirical work, Nitya has also written for both practitioner- and scholarly-oriented outlets about how organizations can better support women and working mothers as well as how employees can be allies toward others whose communities have been targeted by violence.
